Perform   servicing   functional adjustments and    minor    repair/replacement t o    t h e    f l i g h t    c o n t r o l , propulsion, power   train   and   fuel   systems. Accomplish   air   frame   repair   that   does   not   require extensive   disassembly,   jigging   or   alinement . The   manufacture   of   air   frame   parts will   be   limited   to   those   items   which   can   be   fabricated   with   tools   and   equipment f o u n d    i n    c u r r e n t    a i r    m o b i l e    t o o l    a n d    s h o p    s e t s . Evacuate unserviceable modules/components   and   end   items beyond   the   repair   capability   of   AVUM   to   the supporting   AVIM. ( b )    L e s s    t h a n    C o m p a n y    S i z e    A v i a t i o n    U n i t s :    A v i a t i o n    e l e m e n ts organic   to   brigade,   group, battalion   headquarters   and   detachment   size   units   are normally   small   and   have l e s s     t h a n     t e n     a i r c r a f t     a s s i g n e d. Maintenance   tasks performed   by   these   units   will   be   those   which   can   be   accomplished   by   the   aircraft c r e w    c h i e f    o r    a s s i g n e d    a i r c r a f t    r e p a i r m a n    a n d    w i l l    n o r m a l l y    b e    l i m i t e d    to p r e v e n t i v e    m a i n t e n a n c e ,    i n s p e c t i o n s ,    s e r v i c i n g ,    s p o t    p a i n t i n g ,    s t o p    d r i l l i n g , a p p l i c a t i on o f     n o n s t r e s s     p a t c h e s ,     m i n o r     a d j u s t m e n t s ,     m o d u l e / c o m p o n e n t     f a u lt diagnosis   and   replacement   of   selected   modules/components. Repair    functions    will normally   be   accomplished   by   the   supporting   AVIM   unit. ( 2 )     A v i a t i o n     I n t e r m e d i a t e     M a i n t e n a n c e (AVIM) provides mobile, responsive   “One-Stop”   maintenance   support. (Maintenance   functions   which   are   not c o n d u c i v e    t o    s u s t a i n i n g    a i r    m o b i l i t y    w i l l    b e    a s s i g n e d    t o    d e p o t    m a i n t e n a n c e ) , AVIM   may   perform   all   maintenance f u n c t i o n s    a u t h o r i z e d    t o    b e    d o n e    a t    A V U M . R e p a i r    o f    e q u i p m e n t    f o r    r e t u r n    t o    u s e r    w i l l    e m p h a s i z e    s u p p o r t    o r    o p e r a t i o n a l readiness    requirements. Authorized   maintenance   includes   replacement   and   repair of   modules/components   and   end   items   which   can   be   accomplished   efficiently   with a v a i l a b l e    s k i l l s, tools   and   equipment. AVIM   establishes   the   Direct   Exchange (DX)   program   for   AVUM   units   by   repairing   selected   items   for   return   to   stock   when such   repairs   cannot   be   accomplished   at   the   AVUM   level. The   AVIM   level   inspects, troubleshoots, p e r f o r m s     d i a g n o s t i c     t e s t s , r e p a i r s, a d j u s t s , c a l i b r a t e s and alines   aircraft   system   modules/components. AVIM   units   will   have   capability   to d e t e r m i n e    t h e    s e r v i c e a b i l i t y    o f    s p e c i f i e d    m o d u l e s / c o m p o n e n t s    r e m o v e d    p r i o r    to t he e x p i r a t i o n    o f t h e Time Between O v e r h a u l     ( T B O )     o r     f i n i t e     l i f e . Module/component   disassembly   and   repair   will   support   the   DX   program   and   will n o r m a l l y    b e    l i m i t e d    t o    t a s k s    r e q u i r i n g    c l e a n i n g    a n d    t h e    r e p l a c e m e n t    o f    s e a l s, fittings   and   items   of   common   hardware. A i r    f r a m e    r e p a i r a n d    f a b r i c a t i o n    of p a r t s    w i l l    b e    l i m i t e s    t o    t h o s e    m a i n t e n a n c e    t a s k s    w h i c h    c a n    b e    p e r f o r m e d    w i th a v a i l a b l e    t o o l s    a n d    t e s t    e q u i p m e n t . Unserviceable    reparable    modules/components a n d    e n d    i t e m s    w h i c h    a r e    b e y o n d    t h e    c a p a b i l i t y    o f    A V I M    t o    r e p a i r    w i l l    b e evacuated   to   Depot   Maintenance. AVIM   will   perform   aircraft   weight   and   balance inspections   and   other   special   inspection   which   exceed   AVUM   capability.
